Jyothishmathi Sheejith

biography

Jyothishmathi Sheejith is an accomplished Carnatic vocalist and composer who received her four-year undergraduate and two-year postgraduate diploma in music from the Kalakshetra Foundation in 1997. Having studied Carnatic vocal from such doyens as Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan and S Rajaram, she has sung in the lead for many classic Kalakshetra Repertory ensemble dance productions. As an independent artist, she has toured worldwide with illustrious Bharatanatyam dancers such as CV Chandrasekhar, VP and Shanta Dhananjayan, Leela Samson, and Malavika Sarukkai. A graded artist of All India Radio, she has conducted workshops and served as faculty in teaching residencies in India and abroad. Jyothishmathi has composed several musical scores for dance as an individual artist and in partnership with dancer-choreographer husband Sheejith Krishna. Their innovative and critically lauded collaborations include Masquerade (2007), Krishna Bharatam (2009), Parinaamam (2010), Pravaha (2013), Yathadarshe Tathaatmani (2014) and Don Quixote (2015).
